Anal Lubricant Guide: Water-Based, Silicone and Hybrid Formulas

Anal Lubricant Guide

Lubricant choice depends on the toy material, condom compatibility, personal preference and the manufacturer's instructions. Our Anal Lubricants collection includes several formula types.

Water-based formulas

Water-based lubricants are widely compatible with toy materials, but individual formulas differ in viscosity and how often they need to be reapplied.

Silicone formulas

Silicone lubricants can provide longer-lasting lubrication. Check the toy manufacturer's instructions before combining silicone lubricant with a silicone toy because compatibility can vary.

Hybrid formulas

Hybrid products combine characteristics of more than one formula type. Review the ingredient and compatibility information supplied for the specific lubricant and toy.

How much should you use?

Anal tissue does not provide the same natural lubrication as some other areas, so use a generous amount and reapply as needed. Discomfort is a reason to stop rather than compensate by forcing movement.

Check condom compatibility

If condoms or barriers are being used, verify that the lubricant is compatible with their material. Oil-based products can damage latex.

Compare current sizes and formulas in Anal Lubricants, then follow the directions on the product you select.
