Lubricant Texture Vocabulary: Slick, Thick, Gel and Liquid Explained

Lubricant Texture Vocabulary

Texture words are useful shorthand, but most are not standardized measurements.

Liquid

Usually describes a more fluid consistency, though products can vary considerably.

Gel

Often signals a thicker formulation, but one brand's gel may differ from another's.

Thick

A relative description that should be compared with other products from the same manufacturer when possible.

Slick

A subjective description rather than a measurable viscosity specification.

Use multiple specifications

Combine texture descriptions with formula type, ingredients, volume and packaging for a better comparison.
